Dr. Rasaq Muhammed Adisa, an associate professor of mass communication at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, has made significant contributions to both academia and the field of journalism. With a distinguished career marked by leadership, mentorship, and prolific research.

Dr. Adisa’s academic journey began with a B.A. in Mass Communication from Bayero University Kano in 1993. He furthered his studies with an M.Sc. in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 2001, and culminated in a Ph.D. in Communication from University Utara Malaysia in 2016. Additionally, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Teachers’ Institute Kaduna, obtained in 2007.

In his role as the Managing Editor of the “Social and Digital Media Discourse” (SDMD) journal, Dr. Adisa has been instrumental in shaping contemporary discourse in mass communication. His leadership extends internationally through his collaborations as a Research Resource Person with the Norwegian Research Institute in Kenya and the International Institute of Journalism in Nigeria.

Dr. Adisa has an impressive publication record that includes contributions to reputable journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters. Among his notable works are two books:

His book, “Newswriting and Reporting for Africa,” is particularly recognized for its practical approach and is available on Amazon. Dr. Adisa’s research interests are diverse and include journalism, qualitative research methods, news framing, and ethnic conflicts in Nigeria. His expertise in qualitative research analysis, particularly using NVivo software, has established him as a sought-after tutor, facilitator, and consultant.

Dr. Adisa is deeply committed to mentorship, having supervised over 20 Masters dissertations and one Ph.D. thesis. His guidance has been pivotal in shaping the careers of many emerging scholars in the field of mass communication. His dedication to education and research is further demonstrated by his involvement in the TETFUND Book grant project, “Reading in Media and Communication Studies,” completed in 2022.

Dr. Adisa is an active member of several learned professional societies, including:

  • African Council of Communication Education (since 2003)
  • Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR, since 2000)
  • Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (since 2020)

He is also the pioneer and current Chairman of the Association of Academic Qualitative Research Likeminds in Africa, reflecting his leadership and commitment to advancing qualitative research.
